The drink was invented in 1942 in the west of Ireland by Joseph Sheridan, head chef at a restaurant in Shannon Airport, in County Clare. Weather conditions had forced a New York-bound plane filled with Americans back to the airport. Sheridan decided to whip up a new drink to warm the weary stranded passengers who come into the restaurant.
When some of the passengers asked Sheridan if the coffee was from Brazil and what he called it, the chef replied “No, it’s not from Brazil. It’s Irish coffee.”
“Irish Coffee” quickly became the drink of choice at the airport. And that’s where Stanton Delaplane, a San Francisco travel writer, discovered it. Delaplane loved the drink so much that in 1952 he persuaded The Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco to offer it.

6 ounces of hot, fresh-brewed coffee
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 1/2 ounces of your favorite Irish whiskey
Using the heavy cream, whip it until it becomes whipped cream. You can add sugar or confectionate sugar to sweeten.Chill. Combine fresh coffee with whiskey and sugar. Mix well until sugar dissolves. Place a dollop of whipped cream on top of each mug.

2 ounces Irish whiskey
2 cups hot strong brewed coffee (French or dark roast)
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1 teaspoon green creme de menthe
and creme de menthe until thickened. Gently spoon onto tops of drinks, allowing cream to float.
